How does a furnace filter work?

As air moves through an HVAC system, the furnace filter traps airborne contaminants to protect the furnace and improve the indoor air quality. Furnace filters trap dust, debris, hair, and other small unwanted particles to prevent them from recirculating indoors.

Will GermGuardian furnace filters fit in my furnace?

GermGuardian furnace filters come in sizes: 16" x 25" x 1" and 20" x 25" x 1" . If you are unsure of your furnace filter size, we recommend checking the manual for the furnace or consulting with an HVAC specialist before buying!

Why are there two furnace filter measurements?

One is the nominal measurement, and one is an actual measurement, which is the precise dimensions of the filter, if you were to measure it with a ruler.

What is a MERV rating?

An air filter's minimum efficiency reporting value (MERV) rating measures how effectively the filter traps and captures dust and other containments from passing through the filter. It is important to realize that when selecting what furnace filter to buy higher MERV rating is not always better. Using a filter that is higher than recommended for your HVAC unit can decrease the performance.
